"The written word never tells it all."
Sicily, 2006.
It all surely began in that small light blue room that always smelled of fresh linens. Next door was my mother’s sewing workshop. People would come in and go out, needles at work, the scent of the sewing machine, the warmth of the iron, and the little radio often tuned to a Christian station where several Masses could be heard live throughout the day. I was young and rarely stopped to watch her work. To me, it seemed like a waste of time. I would wonder, for instance, "Why get pants tailored when you can just buy them in the right size?" But perhaps something from that time is connected to what I do now. I would observe the different styles of each client and mentally swap their clothes, maybe to improve their looks. Since 2006, much has changed. I live in a different country, a city unlike the small village of six thousand inhabitants, another language, different customs… But two things have remained the same: this imagination that drives me to transform someone’s appearance through the styles I encounter every day, and that sewing machine.
My name is Flaviano Sangiorgi, I am a designer, and here is my collection: "LA RINASCITA".
